Tim has a diverse and distinguished career as actor, dancer, humorist, director, writer and producer. Starting out in musicals in 1976, Tim’s drama career began in 1978 when he was given the opportunity of taking over the leading role in the comedy, “happy Birthday”, on condition he was on in 48 hours.
This feat accomplished, Tim has become one of the most sought after actors in South Africa. Equally at home in both comedy and drama, he has started in productions from farce to drama to musicals, on TV, film and on stage.
Tim has won numerous awards, including “Two Into One” (Fleur du Cap Best Actor of the year Award), “Doubles (Outstanding Achievements in Comedy), “Heel Against the Head” (Best Comedy Production), “The Insatiable” (Best Comic Play) and his signature one man show, “Defending the Caveman” (Vita Best Performance by an Actor in a Comedy role).
Tim was the first and only actor in SA to win a Best Actor award for the farce genre of theater. On television Tim has written, produced and starred in a number of series, including “The Tim Plewman Show” and “Carruthers Bothers” in collaboration with his good pal, Bill Flynn.
Tim and his wife, Cathy, have a highly successful production company, which has a produced 18 theatre productions and over 160 corporates.
Tim is a proficient voice-over artist on many award winning, iconic commercial such as Castle Lager, Mnet, Trellidoor, Honda, Pieman and many, many more.
Tim’s Legendary show, Defending the Caveman”, crossed the divides of race, gender, age, culture and religion to become a South African icon, the only show to become one of the things you have to see if visiting the country, along with the Big Five, Cape Town and a gold mine.
After literally thousands of requests from the companies to “come and do something for them”, Tim developed a new one-man show,” Designer Genes”, that incorporates the wisdom of “Caveman” and his own unique comedy style that is receiving standing ovations everywhere Tim goes..
